- Item - the wife of a friend in Houston who is enrolled in Medicare and a private supplemental insurance company was referred for a heart examination. Medicare refused payment, deeming it 'not medically necessary', and since his supplemental insurance only pays the deductible AFTER Medicare has paid -- they refuse to pay as well. My friend had two choicec... forgo the heart examination on his wife or fork over $3,500!!! What would you do?
- Item - another friend, a cancer survivor was given his second annual full body scan to check for recurrence. The medical results were good, the Medicare prognosis bad: they deemed it unnecessary and repetitious after the fact. My friend got a bill for $7,000 for the examination. He is still fighting with his supplemental carrier, the hospital and of course - Medicare.
These are only two of many such stories I have heard.... I'm sure y'all have heard (or experienced) your own as well.
I am reminded of a joke from my youth -- 'What do you call an Italian suppository?' The answer of course............. 'An Innuendo!'
It's no longer a joke - this ain't Italy -- but we are all being administered an Innuendo!!
