The Wisdom of Ronald W Reagan

The pencil necked, pointy toed shoe crowd used to love to poke fun at RWR. Just a B Movie actor they called him. After eight successful years as Gob'nor of that limp wristed, light loafered, over taxed nanny state called California, they still gave him no credit.

They gave him little credit for serving as one of the most successful two term Presidents of the United States, as he fled the Washington scene to return to his beloved ranch in that same left coast state he governed so well.

Even now, with the current 3rd rate amateur community organizer screwing things up in the Oval Office - the elitists hesitate to give Reagan any credit. That's why I was surprised to see this column on the Eve of July 4th listing just 40 of his best quotes.

My favorite is: "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free."

And: "We don't have a trillion-dollar debt because we haven't taxed enough; we have a trillion-dollar debt because we spend too much." (unfortunately that trillion has been multiplied 14 times)

Humor: "Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other."
