Tax time seems like a good time to revisit my annual rant about the dangers of having a full time Congress comprised of career political hacks.... and the cure.
435 Congresspeoples and 100 Senators and Senatorettes while away their years building their personal fortunes and increasing their taxpayer paid retirement annuities by doing 'makework'. When I was a lad, 'makework' was how you described jobs that you did only to appear busy. Kinda like that slacker you remember in the office who wandered from office to office all day with a file in his hand. He never showed it to anybody - cause there wasn't anything in it.
Well, unfortunately those 535 users in the Congress have tens of thousands of slackers to walk around with the folders, so they have to find other work to do to make it look like they are earning their keep. So, they create new laws, new departments, new regulations, new investigations. Hells bells, they just passed a slew of bills this year that take away our rights under the 1st, 4th 5th, and 6th Amendments. All under the guise of national safety. The one thing that they are required to do by law --- create a Budget -- they have ignored for three years and scoffed when they did it.
Seems to me, there are only two answers to the problem. Either make the congress a part-time job, three months a year; or give them enough work to keep them busy and out of mischief - like sunset every danged Federal law and regulation every ten years. This would cause the congress to have to study, update and re-pass 1/10th of all those thousands of legislative beauties plus ugly regulations written by unelected staffers, every year.
Yessir, by golly, that would keep them idle hands busy and earning their keep.
By the way, this would work for your state gob'mint too! It sure helps us in Texas. What do you think?
