Anyway, here is San Antonio we have only one daily newspaper. They call it the San Antonio Express-News.... most of us captive folks call it the S.A. Excuse-News. Today they had a real problem,
Apparently the nonpartisan Tax Foundation released a report yesterday that ranked all of the fifty states in order of the tax burdens they impose on their citizens and businesses. Turns out that Texas ranks #8 from the top in a list from least taxed states to most taxed states. Forty-two states impose heavier tax burden percentages on their residents. NY, NJ, and CT being the heaviest of course.
Well now, what's a paper gonna do with a positive report like this. First they found a couple of advocate groups that think we should all pay more taxes to put a negative sway to the story and then they turned it over to their headline writers. Instead of a headline for the article that read like; "Texas found to be the eighth least taxed state" or words to that effect - the headline they published read:
"Texas ranks in bottom 10 in national study of tax burdens"
Oh woe is us --- in the bottom ten again. Ain't it great!!!
Now you understand why even fish jump outta this paper when we try to wrap them in it.
