Two points to be made about a news item in the London Daily Mail...

..... about the state of the world. I reckon I'll let you read the item before I comment.

Homeowner sued after woman delivering junk mail claims she injured her hand on letterbox

A homeowner who had unwanted junk mail shoved through his door is now being sued by the woman delivering it after she hurt her hand on his letterbox.

Furious Paul O'Brien was staggered when he received a solicitor's letter demanding that he pay damages to cake decorator Joy Goodman for injuries she received when she pestered him with post.

The 44-year-old said: "When I received a solicitor's letter, I thought someone was having a laugh.

Joy Goodman claims that she hurt her hand while delivering unwanted junk mail and is now suing homeowner Paul O'Brien

"I actually told them they had sent it early - April Fool's Day is still six weeks away.

"I just cannot believe someone who came on to my property uninvited, to put junk mail through my door that I didn't want, can now sue me because they hurt themselves."

Mrs Goodman is seeking damages for personal injury and loss of earnings, claiming the top of her right index finger was severed, meaning she can no longer do her intricate job.

But Mr O'Brien has vowed to fight the bizarre claim.

The dad-of-two was out when Mrs Goodman apparently hurt herself on his door on January 24.

She returned two days later, and finding him out, spoke to a neighbour and left contact details for him to get in touch with her.

But the next communication he received from the aggrieved woman was a letter from her solicitors informing him their client was claiming damages.

It read: "We understand that the circumstances of the accident are that our client was delivering a leaflet to your house when your letterbox snapped back on to her right index finger.

"As a result of this, our client suffered from personal injury and loss."

Comment #1: I have always thought it unfair that although I own my mailbox, the Feds won't let anybody else use it ----- maybe it ain't such a bad thing!
Comment #2: In one of the comments regarding the article that were sent into the paper, one said: "We are getting just as bad as America, where everybody wants to be compensated!" I ask you, do we have a great reputation in this ole' world or what?
