Southwest Airlines, in it's own inimitable fashion - has decided to make lemonade out of the miniskirt fiasco of last week. Where other airlines might have ducked and dodged... Southwest has apologised to Kyla, given her free tickets, and now announced new "Mini-fares" and "Skimpy" fares on their website. Now that's in the tradition of Herb Kelleher, the airline's start up CEO and recently retired Chairman. Have fun! Let's hope that Kyla (or more importantly, her pin striped, pointy toed lawyers) have the common sense to accept the apologies, the gifts and her moment of fame and move on!
Southwest President Colleen Barret sent a message to all employees which said in part:
............."So here’s how we’re going to respond:
I am plac
ing a call to Kyla myself to apologize for any embarrassment we might have caused her. That was certainly not our intent.
We’ve got to remember our roots—we are a Fun-LUVing airline. We’ve got to remember our sense of humor, and not take ourselves too seriously.
We will be presenting Kyla with two tickets on Southwest Airlines as a gesture of goodwill on the Dr. Phil show, which should air in the near future.
Gary is recording a new radio spot, which you will also be able to hear on Red Belly Radio, to remind all of our Customers that we are the FUN and low-fare airline. To prove it, we’re offering really “skimpy” fares as part of our new fare sale with “mini-fares to match the miniskirts we’ve been hearing so much about.” "

Now that's the Southwest Airlines I used to fly back and forth across Texas in the '60's .... back in the days of hot pants, comp drinks while waiting to take off and fun for everybody! Yaahoooo! 'Course now they've grown across the country and think they need to copy those other buttoned down, cold natured airlines.... ahh well!
