Hang on to your Stetson's

Just when I was beginning to yawn off the whole 2008 Presidential campaign as totally blah, with no sparkling stars in the field of either party, along comes Mr "Can't Win"! Call him the man with the plan, the mouth from the South, the has-been who ain't, the cuzz with the buzz.

If ever there was a true lightning rod in national politics - it would have to be Newt Gingrich. The former back bencher who rose to Speaker of the House by orchestrating control of the Congress away from the Democrats for the first time in forty years. Who's personal life was as screwed up as his business judgement. Who, when he felt his presence might hurt the party, resigned and went back to teaching history, studying history, and thinking and planning.

We all plead for politicians who speak with a straight tongue, instead of dancing the side-step until all the poll results are in. Say whatever you want about Newt, when he finishes a speech, you have no doubt what he said, what he meant, and where he stands! How refreshing is that? Of course the big question becomes: Can we handle that openness? Only time will tell, but I for one look forward to some energy in this listless, mindless, and seemingly endless nominating campaign by both parties.....

Speaking of Newt, by the way, I heard him announce Tuesday that police departments should be required to check on the citizenship status of a felony arrestees. I had to hit replay -- you mean they don't do this now?
Yegads! How about misdemeanor arrestees as well!!!!!!!
