We have all heard the story of the young eternal optimist, who came upon a large pile of horse manure and immediately began digging away..... when asked why, the lad replied, "With such a great pile of horse poop, there must be a pony under here!"
That's kind of the way I feel this week about all the scandals, outright lies, and cover-ups coming from the IRS and the White House...... In TV jargon, they have 'jumped the shark'! That is to say - they have gone over the top and lost all credibility with the American electorate.
There isn't one simple soul in this country who actually believes that the IRS 'lost' all of Lois Lerner's e-mails to the White House, the Democrat National Party, it's operatives, and others involved in the efforts to stifle conservative non-profit organizations in 2012. Not one! Not even the luddites among us who think the abacus is too complicated.
So, where and why am I looking for a pony in this pile of horse manure? After the 16th Amendment was adopted in 1913, recreated the IRS (originally created by Abraham Lincoln in 1862 to cover Civil War expenses) it has grown like a huge tape worm parasite on the back pockets of every citizen, businessman and organization in this country. It is demanding, it's employees are protected unionists, and it is omniscient in it's presence.
So after a century of putting up with the heavy foot of the IRS on our collective necks, Americans have suddenly been released from the one saving grace they believed --- that the IRS is apolitical, and simply trying to be as fair and impartial as possible in the collection of federal taxes.
Hah!
Perhaps the proverbial pony is buried under this pile of IRS 'lost' e-mails. Maybe the electorate will rise in their collective anger and demand that their elected representatives erase the IRS from federal existence and replace the whole tax code with the simplified and fairer Fair Tax Law.
Hey, I can be an optimist and dream can't I?
