Portland Police were called to a report of a man running naked in traffic near North Columbia Boulevard and Portsmouth Avenue at 4 a.m. Sunday. (as reported in the Oregonian)
As officers responded, a second report came in that the naked man was doing push-ups in the street. Then, a third report that he'd been struck by a vehicle.
Officers and emergency medical workers found the man, deceased, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the man remained at the scene and was cooperative. The driver was not impaired by alcohol or drugs, according to police.
Major Crash Team investigators learned that the driver struck the pedestrian in the roadway while traveling westbound on Columbia Boulevard.
The Oregon State Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy, including toxicology, to determine the pedestrian's cause of death.
I certainly mourn the death of any man and take no joy in it -- but I do take a lesson in life from this unfortunate incident and hereby pledge that when the early dark morning comes that I choose to jog naked through the streets of my community and stop to do push-ups........... I vow to wear one of them there green reflector jackets! BTW, this picture isn't really me..... it's my body double.
Not just for my sake, but for the mental well being of the drivers who might have run over me!
