Duke University.... transgender heaven?

The last time I saw Duke University in the headlines, it was about three years ago when they fired the school lacrosse team because they had been accused of rape at a frat party that got out of hand.  The charges later proved false - but the damage was done. 

Now I see that Duke is in the news again -- yessiree bob! Just like most colleges and universities, they provide (at a fee) a form of medical insurance for their students.  You know, in case a kid falls and sprains or breaks an ankle, gets the flu, eats some bad food and gets the back yard trots. Those kind of incidents that happen to young, healthy teenagers..

But now, they have decided that they should extend their current transgender out-reach programs (and lo - they have many) to their medical insurance offering.   Thus, ergo, and hence:

"Dean of Students Sue Wasiolek confirmed that administrators signed a new contract with the university's health insurance provider, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, that will include up to $50,000 to cover gender confirmation surgery, according to the Duke Chronicle. Wasiolek also stated that all pivotal aspects of transgender health care such as counseling, hormone therapy and surgery will be included in the coverage."

How will Duke pay for all this expensive extra insurance --- simple!  They will add a .3% surcharge on ALL student's tuition and fees costs; currently in the $40-50 thousand per semester range.  No problem..

So, think of all the proud parents who can now send 'Robert' off to Duke, pay $200K for his education and when the new 'Roberta' comes home with her BA degree in Evolutionary Anthropology or Women's Studies,   she can join the crew at the nearest MickeyD's in a fetching frock with golden arches on her breast pocket instead of  those silly trousers with the fly in front!

Can't you just see the broad smiles on the Quakers and Methodist founders of this great university...?   I imagine if they wrapped their coffins in copper wire, they could create enough electricity to keep the school lit up 24/7 just from those founders spinning in their graves!!!
