Yep, six weeks till the Presidential Election and yet the voters of Iowa can walk into any designated voting site and cast their ballot for the next President of the USA.. It doesn't matter that their candidate could drop dead next week, or sign up as BFF with Mad Vlad or the Mullah of Tehran .... nope --- they lined up early to get that pesky, difficult, complicated hard job of tapping a voting screen out of the way!
Here, this will really rock yer boat:
"An Iowa law, which national election observers say is the only one of its kind in the country, allows a campaign to gather 100 signatures and petition election officials to create a temporary voting location aimed at serving a particular constituency.
In Des Moines, Democrats requested that a voting site be opened Oct. 20 at La Tapatia Tienda Mexicana, a restaurant. Republicans requested a site be opened on the same day at Johnston Evangelical Free Church. Election officials granted both requests, along with those for voting sites at libraries, grocery stores and community centers.
When Michelle Obama visits the University of Northern Iowa on Friday, her chief task will not be simply to deliver a speech. She will ask supporters to cast their ballots on the spot, a few steps away at a voting site requested by the campaign and approved by election officials."
As a matter of fact, when polling opened yesterday morning at Eight O'clock, a.m., people were line up down the street to cast their votes. Now, seems to me that if time and trouble were a factor in this
Besides, the rest of the country knows that an Iowan won't vote for any candidate that didn't personally visit them for coffee in their kitchen at least 4 times last year!!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against 'excused' absentee voting prior to November 6th - for the old, the maimed, the bed ridden and those who can prove they will be out of their home counties on election day --- but this early voting thing has lost all common sense.
Not near as much as Washington and Oregon that do it all by mail. I guess they have mail drops right inside the gates of their cemeteries.
Here is a closing question: Which is more important to the health of our country:
a. That every lazy, drooling village idiot gets to mark an X on a ballot?
b. Or that as many concerned, informed, and involved voters as possible are given the opportunity to vote?
