Well, it was bound to happen! In Utah, you can now be cited for WWD!!!
Yessir Pilgrims, it is now a crime in the great state of Utah to 'Walk While Distracted' when you are near Utah Transit Authority (UTA) property.
Such offenses as talking on cellphones, listening to music with headphones, texting, "attending to personal hygiene" or reading newspapers or magazines while crossing tracks, can get you a $50 fine for the first offense and $100 for subsequent similar evil activities.
What makes this even more unbelievable is that the UTA Board Members passed this ordinance with an 11-3 vote....... darned near unanimous!!
When asked how they would pursue it, the UTA lawyer came up with this gem: "police can judge it, and, "If someone appeared to have their head down and walks into the side of the train and they had earphones, that would probably be a pretty good set of evidence that they were distracted."
I think this whole story is pretty good evidence that there are folks in Utah with too much time on their hands and too little gray matter in their brain boxes!
I'm still scratchin' my ole' head trying to figure out what that 'personal hygiene' distraction might be.
