No, that headline doesn't say "Remember THE Maine", the echoing call that set off the Spanish American war in 1898......
Nope, it says, "Remember 'Maine'".... in 2015~ As of January 1st of this year, the Gob'nor and legislature of Maine, threw aside federal mandates and rules -- put rules in place that requires all able bodied adults without children to either work 20 hours a week, or do volunteer work 24 hours per month....... to remain eligible for food stamps.
The result - participation dropped 87% in 4 months......... Yes, that is no mistype, today, only 22.33% of the total number of Maine food stamp recipients on January 1st are still receiving them.
I reckon - the rest of those folks decided that six hours a week was just too much to ask ............. or..... discovered that a little honest work ain't such a bad thing.
So the call around the Nation should ring once again...."Remember Maine!"
Last I heard, we had 46,000,000 (million) Americans on Food Stamps in 2014. If that were reduced to 22.33% of that number, there would only be 10,271,800 on Food Stamps next January. A whole lot smaller wagon for the tax payers of the nation to pull!
