But now, with the world at my fingertips, I no longer allow myself that privilege.
Thus when I was reading a short article today about the reasons for the high divorce rate among today's young married (read - 30 & 40 year olds), the author blamed it on the solipsism of that generation. Whoa Nellie! Solipsism? WTH?
So I looked it up on line:
Definition of SOLIPSISM
: a theory holding that the self can know nothing but its own modifications and that the self is the only existent thing;I still didn't have a clue - but then fortunately ole' Merriam added: 'extreme egocentrism'.
Now that, after the last couple of years, I could understand. However, somehow I don't see myself adding this new word to my active, daily vocabulary - lest I spend my days trying to think of ways to insert the word in a conversation instead thinking about the topic at hand. That would be kinda solipsistic of me wouldn't it?
