..... First the story:
Last year, a 17 year old Mexican youth 'walked' across the border illegally and took a bus to Richmond VA. In Richmond, he was picked up by police -- and in keeping with the times, didn't get put back on a bus to Mexico --- They placed him in a foster home there in Richmond. Isn't that nice.
In April, 2010, five days after turning 18, while foster-pop was asleep upstairs, young Arturo grabbed a knife and raped his 55 year old foster mom. He was arrested, and convicted by a jury in September. The jury recommended that he be sentenced to twenty years for the rape, and ten years fort the abduction.
Hold on now - I told you there is a happy ending to this story......
On Wednesday, Dec 1st, the judge set aside the sentencing guidelines which called for a sentence of 9 - 21 years. Instead he sentenced young Arturo to Fifty years in prison, with twenty of those years suspended if he behaves well the first thirty.
Now isn't that a heartwarming Christmas story....? A true DREAM ACT!!
