Hmmm, about that XXVI Amendment......

The XXVI (26th) Amendment to the Constitution granting the right to vote to any American citizen 18 years or older, was ratified in 1971.

If you recall, this was in the heat of the Vietnam War, the poster years for all that was wrong with the Selective Service System -- Draft!

The cry across the land became: If they are old enough to be drafted and sent into battle, and if they are old enough to be able to drink legally --- then surely they are old enough and experienced enough to vote intelligently and responsibly.

Y'all remember those arguments back and forth?

Well now, it's 2010, there is no Draft, nobody is being sent involuntarily to war. The legal drinking age has been raised to 21 years of age in all fifty States.....

Using the same arguments that brought about the 26th Amendment, couldn't it be reasonably argued that it should be repealed and the minimum voting age ought to be returned to 21???

Under the heading 'What goes around', I note that since 2007, there has been an argument made for lowering the drinking age to 18! Why? Because if 'you are old enough to vote and go to war --etc... Arghhh!
