Celebrity Awe! A national shame...............

Apparently, Brad Pitt made a visit to Capitol Hill this week. The actions, comments and suckin' up of our elected politicos would be embarrassing if they were fourth graders, much less our Congressional Representatives .... here's a tidbit....

Capitol Hill goes gaga over Brad Pitt

Mar 5 By LAURIE KELLMAN

WASHINGTON (AP) - First of all, no, Brad Pitt is not short. Yes, he's handsome enough to stand out in any crowd. And, sorry, Angie wasn't with him.

From the moment he stepped into the Capitol on Thursday, sunglassed and goateed, Pitt's star power transformed congressional business-as-usual in a way any lawmaker or new president might envy.
"Nice face. Waaaay too skinny," one Senate source e-mailed on condition of anonymity after catching sight of the actor between meetings with lawmakers about helping rebuild New Orleans.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was not immune to his charms. Praising Pitt for his work to rebuild New Orleans' hurricane-ravaged 9th Ward, she even allowed that meeting him affords her "bragging rights to my children and my grandchildren - a real treat for me as well."

And during a closed meeting earlier, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid confided to Pitt that he was envious that his lieutenant, Majority Whip Dick Durbin, got to meet soccer star Mia Hamm a day earlier, according to one person who was present and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Well, Pitt replied, he'll bring along co-parent Angelina Jolie next time to help Reid make Durbin jealous, this person said.

Later, a Durbin aide sniffed: "Durbin's already met Angelina Jolie." [....]
Pilgrims, if this was the first time this tween-age sort of activity took place, I wouldn't be concerned. But it's been that way as far back as I can recall. Well no, that isn't exactly right! Back in WWII, real stars like Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart and their gang enlisted in the military - put on their uniforms and performed like all other Americans.
It's only been since the 'look at me generation' started running things in the early 60's that the intellectual celebrity I.Q. plummeted, and this fawning started. When the Hollywoody's started thinking that their celebrity granted them some unique political standing...... and judging by this weeks activity in Washington, who can blame them?
Speaking of celebrities, what was it Popeye said? "That's all I can stands, I can't stands no more!"
