Well now - in Texas this is the day every second year that we hide our billfolds...

...hide our daughters and other assets. Today begins the bi-annual 140 day legislative session of the Texas Gob'mint!

Thousands of Bills will be filed, hundreds will end up being passed and sent to the Governor for autographing, and some of them will actually be read. It is like a Legislature on speed!

They not only have to draft, present, argue and pass legislation, needed or not, but also approve a State Budget for the next two fiscal years - until they meet again. In these certainly uncertain times, that should be interesting! I 'spect that the budget will be nudged forward as they pass all their 'to do' stuff, and then the Governor will just have to call them back for a Special Session to address the budget question.

Every time I question the sanity of such a system, I think about those States with full time legislators and the unending legislation they spew. Not to mention the grandstanding and daily interference with the lives of their constituents.

Maybe this Texas system ain't so bad after all!
