"I think the party has to take a hard look at itself," Powell said in the interview, which was taped Wednesday. "There is nothing wrong with being conservative. There is nothing wrong with having socially conservative views — I don't object to that. But if the party wants to have a future in this country, it has to face some realities. In another 20 years, the majority in this country will be the minority."

Powell, who crossed party lines and endorsed President-elect Barack Obama just weeks before the election, said the GOP must see what is in the "hearts and minds" of African-American, Hispanic and Asian voters "and not just try to influence them by… the principles and dogma."
"I think the party has to stop shouting at the world and at the country,"Powell said. "I think that the party has to take a hard look at itself, and I've talked to a number of leaders in recent weeks and they understand that." Powell, who says he still considers himself a Republican, said his party should also stop listening to conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.
"Can we continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh?" Powell asked. "Is this really the kind of party that we want to be when these kinds of spokespersons seem to appeal to our lesser instincts rather than our better instincts?"
You would think that a man of Powell's experience, would have discovered the difference between the Republican label and the true Conservative along the way. I don't reckon he ever listened to Limbaugh, or he would know that Limbaugh is an American Conservative first and foremost, and a Republican second. I'm sure that all he knows about Rush's broadcasts is what he learns from his elitist friends on the Georgetown Cocktail circuit where he is paraded around and put on display as an 'enlightened' Republican.
It's actually embarrassing in a way. Kind of like like the days when the elder Joe Louis was employed as a 'greeter and hand shaker' in the hallways of casinos and elsewhere. It is particularly telling when....... working as a McCain assassin and liberal dupe for Obamanation, he was displayed for a full hour on Sunday mornings "Meet The Press', and now that he has served his purpose, he is reduced to dancing for a second stringer on the fourth rate new channel.
Oh, and a further example of his digging up little bones trying to please his new masters, during this same interview he blasts Governor Palin for endorsing 'small town' values. "I was raised in Queens and there is nothing wrong with my values", he said. How lame is that....... and he never once addressed her as Governor Palin, just Sarah Palin --- tsk tsk
