Yellowcake Shipped Out
The last major remnant of Saddam Hussein's nuclear program -- a huge stockpile of concentrated natural uranium -- reached a Canadian port Saturday, completing a secret U.S. operation that included a two-week airlift from Baghdad and a long ship voya
ge. The removal of more than 600 tons of yellowcake, the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment, was a significant step toward closing the books on Hussein's nuclear legacy. It also relieved U.S. and Iraqi concerns that the cache would reach insurgents or smugglers crossing to Iran to aid its nuclear ambitions
This news of this removal of 550 metric tons of yellowcake from Iraq to Canada has been all over the blogosphere - but I sure ain't seen any stories on the front pages of my MSM newspaper or on my TV evening news programs.. Do y'all remember all the the front page and lead story screaming about the 'lack of WMD's" in Iraq. The hand wringing over that jerk (with the big hair and the whiny blond wife), Wilson's report that Hussein hadn't tried to buy yellowcake from Niger.
Headlines read; "Bush Lied - People Died!" -- where are all those newspaper columnists and TV talking heads now? Bush's administration could have made a public spectacle of this whole adventure (God knows, Bubba woulda!) but they played it low key for the sake of security in the transfer.
When you get a moment - Google "Iraq, yellowcake" and glance through all the hits! I'll leave it up to you to reach your own conclusions, Pardners!!
