We all saw the headlines this last week that shouted that the European Airbus consortium (EADS) has won the megamillion dollar contract to supply their air planes as refuelers to the USAF. That was a wake up bugle and shows what happens when our one remaining airplane manufacturer, Boeing, has no native competition and depe
nds on their ties to politicians to remain in the game. Hopefully -- some long term good will come out of this development. We in the US of A have always felt like we owned the commercial skies as well, the biggest fleets, the most flights, and all those bragging rights. We might have to rethink that, as well!
Air France merged with KLM a couple of years ago, making them one of the worlds largest carriers. Didn't read much about that, did we? This week it has been announced that Air France-KLM is buying out Alitalia! With the blessing of the Italian government. Hmmm
Now it appears that Air France-KLM + Alitalia is a playing partner in a merger between Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines here at home. What t
heir role will be in the newly formed company isn't yet exactly clear -- but I don't reckon they are investing to be common stock holders only.Remember in the not too distant past when carriers like TWA, and PANAM circled the world? Will we soon be seeing 'AFKADA' (AirFrance-KLM-Alitalia-Delta-NWAirlines) or some such, flying the globe with the Tri-Colors of the flag of the French Republic on her tails?
Just ponderin' out loud --- meanwhile I'll keep my eyes peeled........
