Our founding fathers went through hell to get us to this country free from regal governments and ruling churches. Then they went and wrote the 1st Amendment to the Constitution:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; ........"
Now then Buckaroos, do you see anything in there sayin' freedom "from" religion? Neither does this old boy! But everybody tippytoes around this Christmas thing and even the Hanaka thing, like it had bad breath or somethin'! Even our Christmas Cards now read "Happy Holidays", kids get a winter break instead of Christmas vacation...
Well durn it! I got three catalogs in the mail yesterday and the word Christmas or Hanuka didn't appear in one of them. So I decided I'd do a casual survey and checked out the Internet sites for some of our national store chains.. If Christmas was on the front page, I gave 'em five stars, if a search using the word 'Christmas' showed items with the word Christmas in their names, I have them three stars... but dang it, if the word doesn't appear anywhere and the site is full of euphemisms like 'holiday', 'winter', 'family', 'whimsical', they get no damn stars....
Remember, this ain't science - I could be wrong but I found:Five stars *****
Walmart
Target
Home Depot
Sears
Michaels
Hobby Lobby
Three stars ***
Home Depot
No stars - zip, nada, none
Lowes
Macy's
KMartNordstrom
Now here's the challenge! Do your own search in the snail mailed flyer's and newspaper stuffers, and the Internet sites.... make your own list and then DON'T SHOP THERE AND E-MAIL THEM AND TELL THAT YOU AREN'T AND WHY.... PLUS OF COURSE.... SPREAD THE WORD UP AND DOWN THE E-MAIL LISTS!! Now then .... Get on them horses and git on with it!!
One final thought, with each e-mail I am sending I am sending a picture of a piece of coal................. If you don't tell that you ain't shoppin' there and why you ain't ...... they'll never get the message!!!!!!
