Forgetful or purposeful lack of follow-up ...

by the media? Remember last year when overnight, liquids of any kind were declared verboten in carry on bags on commercial air flights? Remember the hue and cry when bottles of formula, mother's milk, and God Help Us, even Gen X'rs bottles of Evian were confiscated? "Over reaction" the headlines screamed! Government (meaning President Bush of course) has gone too far!" the talking heads on the evening news declared! Tsk Tsk, we all muttered to our selves, for a country who weren't about to let a rag tag bunch of terrorists effect us, we sure seem to be getting cowed.

Well strangely enough, it turns out plans to blow up commercial airliners en masse were the terrorist plot du jour. Bigger than 9-11. Arrests were made in England of British citizens of Middle-Eastern descent and the plots foiled for the moment. But the fact remains that in twelve hours (6 PM to 6 AM) the Department of Homeland Security turned boarding procedures 180 degrees across the land. We'll never know just how many wanna-be martyrs were frightened off by the new strict boarding policy.... but we do know this: The main stream media was aware of the facts behind the new rulings and did their best to downplay or under report them. Unlike the bad news of course, which receives top billing. Here is a sample of ABC News reports a year later (Aug 7,'07). Did you see this in any headlines or as the lead-in to the evening news? No? Neither did I!
