A few random thoughts on this most noble of anniversaries...
- My most embarrassing D-Day anniversary was the 50th, when the United States of America sent it's first admitted draft dodger (and POTUS) to speak at this august occasion... that would be Bubba Clinton of course.
- I am past embarrassment now and just feel a cold numbness when I realize this week we are sending another draft dodger, Chicago community organizer, and an admitted America and Euro hater to represent us at this 70th anniversary ceremony.
- Every D-Day I am amazed the the Brits and the French don't rise up in unison to point out to the wold in general and the the uneducated Americans in particular, that the US role in the invasion of Normandy was as a junior partner..... in numbers of men, ships, airplanes, and commanders.
- Every D-Day I wait for those secret notes to be released that point out that D-Day was executed not so much as to defeat Hitler..... Stalin had that under control, albeit slowly. The true underlying cause for the Landing at Normandy was to prevent Stalin from marching west across Europe after he had finished off the Nazis.

Funny, I have been watching the History Channel's World Wars, and while they missed lots of key events, they did make a big issue of Churchill and FDR deciding that a major invasion of Europe would be the only way to stop the Soviets from conquering Europe.
