Partners, I am neither a prude, nor old fashioned.... I know the times are a changing, and with them, the mores of our society.. But this cartoon yesterday by syndicated cartoonist Jerry Holbert, leaves me completely in the dark.
Not only do I not understand the point of the cartoon, but I am uncertain how blotting out the middle two letters of the word F**K make it acceptable instead of profane.
I am similarly surprised everyday when I see reference to the 'N' word, or it's substitute, 'N****R' and am supposed to think that that format relieves the author of any profanity or racial responsibilities..
We all remember the 'Seven Words prohibited in broadcast TV', as so carefully and loudly expressed by the late George Carlin. If I were to list them all here, substituting asterisks or dashes for the middle letters, would any of you miss the true word? I think not! But for some reason, newspapers, even TV newscasts, TV talkshow panels, magazines and of course, all over this Internet -- those asterisks are suppose to cleanse our intent...
What a bunch of bullsh*t!!!!!
BTW, would one of you more literate and sophisticated Pilgrims please tell Ole' Pecoz what the message of this cartoon is?
