It was surreal, but not unexpected from this apologist loser we call POTUS, that on the eve of our 234th Birthday as an Independent Nation - to hear him state unequivocally that citizenship of this great country is not defined by blood or birth -- but by 'belief"! Whatever that means.
I was born of US Citizens in a small town in Western New York. Thus, despite what y'alls POTUS said, - I am by birth and by blood, an American Citizen.
My sons, born while I was serving abroad in uniform, are US Citizens, despite what the POTUS said - by blood.
My wife, born of foreign parents in the UK, followed the rules and after jumping through the right hoops, passing the right tests, spending the proper amount of time, became a citizen after swearing to the following oath before a Federal Judge (traveling from San Angelo) in Dallas TX in 1966:
"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.
Thus, my bride, me, and our sons, are all bound to defend the Constitution of the United States. I am neither to the left of the constitution, nor to the right of it. Some of y'all argue the Bible, the Qu'an, or whatever -- I have no idea who made up the stories and rules in those books, but I know damned well who wrote the Constitution and why they did. My admiration for their intellect is boundless. I see no room for interpretation,, left or right.....!!
We have a limited central government with a 'presider' who shall be term limited. We do not have a carte blanche legislature and a 'King for four years!' (or 8)
The Constitution has been amended 17 times since the Constitution and Bill of Rights was passed.... is someone wants to change it more, let them follow the Amendment Procedure, not circumvent it with slight of hand in the Oval Office, the Congress or the Supreme Court!
Thinking back to my first paragraph up there - I reckon that if US Citizenship was based on belief, a whole passel of Marxist, socialist, elitist, pointy headed folks would have to head for the exits........ maybe that wouldn't be all bad!
