Obamanation sets another record.....

Proving once again that he can make history simply by being "present," Barack Obama has now achieved the lowest job approval rating of any President at this stage in his administration.

Achieving only a 43% approval rate, Mr. Obama's numbers are a full 8 percentage points beneath those of Jimmy Carter, a president so awful that even complimentary peanuts have nothing nice to say about him. (Okay, that's an awful joke about the peanut-farming president but astoundingly, even that punchline has more than a 43% approval rate).

About that Government Motors Chevy Volt......

Unless you only read the NY Times, by now you've heard that General Motors has some burning issues with their overpriced 40 mile range Chevy Volt. It seems that they just want to light up the night, and the garage -- by self immolation or something...

Not to worry though, even more quietly, Government Motors is 'loaning' alternative autos to Volt owners who are afraid to plug their cars in for recharge. Seems like I rea
d once (don't hold me to this) that the average US buyer of these overpriced lemons has an income of approximately $150K and two other autos. That being the case, why is Chevy 'lending' them another one? Stockholders could probably use the money better.....

Whatta guy.... whatta guy!!

An amazing moment in time......


I opened the Drudge Report this morning and there was a picture of Whoopi Goldberg....

The headline shared the fact that the inestimable Whoopi did not think that Michelle Bachmann was presidential material.

"Bonehead," Whoopi Goldberg of "The View" said when asked if she had to assign a one-word description to Michele Bachmann what would it be.

"That's what I would say. Oh, stop. Oh, please. Listen, I’m sorry. She looks fantastic, I have to say she's gorgeous. But she's not presidential material. I'm sorry, she's not. I'm just saying. This is my opinion," Goldberg said."

Now you ask, 'Pecoz - what the hell is amazing about that, coming from her?', and I'd answer.... "No, no, what's amazing is that Drudge's people would even mention it on their front page!"

Whoopi Goldberg's ability to judge presidential material is the equivalent of me deciding if Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett is the better singer.......... and I can't carry a note in a wheel barrow.

And, I suspect, if you put Whoopi and her sidekick Joy Behar into a Political Mensa contest with Paris Hilton and the Pillsbury Doughboy....... Paris and the Doughboy would win walking away!!

About this 'global warming' thing .............again.

As I am reading through all of these newly released e-mails from scientists around the world who are involved in the global warming hoax team along with political leaders......... and other charlatans.

I pause to wonder out loud -- what is it about human beings that would cause the citizenry of this great educated country to wring their hands and whine about the (true or not) possibility of the temperature rising ONE DEGREE in this world......... whilst they whistle their way past the graveyard of earmarks, deficits, and gob'mint spending that is putting the Nation hopelessly in debt.

$15,000,000,000,000 (trillion) and counting... spoiled little rich kids want even more and our politicians do nothing, the OWS's want more gob'mint freebies, and the conservatives worry more about social issues than fiscal crisis.

When are folks going to get their priorities in order? Rampant inflation in five years? A worthless dollar in ten years? A bankrupt Nation in twenty?

Or the slight chance of a minor global fluctuation of temperature over the next hundred years?

I don't know about you, Partner, but I know where my priorities would lie.............

Annie's on target again!!!

It's been a while since I shared a whole column of Ann Coulter's with you instead of just quoting a part, commenting and linking you.... but she hit my hot button today..

I have been 'hot' for twenty years over the way the Libs & Dims keep rolling the Republicans on this raising taxes thing.....remember George 41st?... and now they are at it again. Hopefully, Annie's column will stiffen some spines......

I'LL GLADLY PAY YOU TUESDAY FOR A TAX INCREASE TODAY



Bored with the Penn State scandal because it didn't implicate any prominent Republicans, the mainstream media have suddenly become obsessed with Grover Norquist's "Taxpayer Protection Pledge." They are monomaniacally fixated on luring Republicans into raising taxes.

If Democrats could balance the budget tomorrow and quadruple government spending, they'd refuse the deal unless they could also make Republicans break their tax pledge. That is their single-minded goal.

But the media are trying to turn it around and say that it's Republicans who are crazy for refusing to consider raising taxes no matter how much they get in spending cuts.

At Tuesday night's Republican presidential debate on foreign policy, for example, CNN's Wolf Blitzer asked the candidates for the one-millionth time if they would agree to raise taxes in exchange for spending cuts 10 times larger than the tax hikes.

Terrorism can wait -- first, let me try to back you into a corner on raising taxes.

Amazingly, Blitzer cited Ronald Reagan's statement in his autobiography, "An American Life," that he would happily compromise with Democrats if he could get 75 or 80 percent of what he wanted -- implying that today's Republicans were nuttier than Reagan if they'd refuse a dollar in tax hikes for $10 in spending cuts.

Wolf should have kept reading. As Reagan explains a little farther in his autobiography: He did accept tax hikes "in return for (the Democrats') agreement to cut spending by $280 billion," but, Reagan continues, "the Democrats reneged on their pledge and we never got those cuts."

Maybe that's why Republicans won't agree to raise taxes in exchange for Democratic promises to cut spending.

For Americans who are unaware of the Democrats' history of repeatedly reneging on their promises to cut spending in return for tax hikes, the Republicans' opposition to tax increases does seem crazy. That's why Republicans need to remind them.

From the moment President Reagan succeeded in pushing through his historic tax cuts in 1981 -- which passed by a vote of 323-107 in the House and 89-11 in the Senate, despite Democrats' subsequent caterwauling -- he came under fantastic pressure to raise taxes from the media and the Democrats.

You will notice it is the same culprits pushing for tax hikes today.

So in 1982, Reagan struck a deal with the Democrats to raise some business and excise taxes -- though not income taxes -- in exchange for $280 billion in spending cuts over the next six years. As Reagan wrote in his diary at the time: "The tax increase is the price we have to pay to get the budget cuts."

But, of course, the Democrats were lying. Instead of cutting $280 billion, they spent an additional $450 billion -- only $140 billion of which went to the Reagan defense buildup that ended the Evil Empire.

Meanwhile, Reagan's tax cuts brought in an extra $375 billion in government revenue in the next six years -- as that amiable, simple-minded dunce Reagan always said they would. His tax cuts funded the entire $140 billion defense buildup, with $235 billion left over.

If Democrats had lied only a little and merely held spending at the same level, Reagan could have smashed the Russkies, produced the largest peacetime expansion in U.S. history with his tax cuts and produced a $235 billion budget surplus. (Jobs created in September 1983: 1.1 million; jobs created in September 2011: 150,000.)

But the Democrats not only refused to implement any budget cuts, they hiked government spending. To the untrained eye, that appears to be the exact opposite of cutting the budget.

Even the gusher of revenue brought in by Reagan's tax cuts couldn't pay for all the additional spending piled up by double-crossing Democrats -- more than twice as much as Reagan's spending on defense.

Reagan's defense spending crushed the Soviet war machine. What did Tip O'Neill's domestic spending accomplish? (I mean, besides destroying the black family, increasing single motherhood and creating government bureaucracies that can never be eliminated.)

Unable to learn from the first kick of a mule, President George H.W. Bush made the exact same deal with Democrats just a few years later.

Pretending to care about the deficit -- created exclusively by their own profligate spending -- Democrats demanded that Bush agree to a "balanced budget" package with both spending cuts and tax increases.

In June 1990, Bush did so, agreeing to tax hikes in defiance of his "read-my-lips, no-new-taxes" campaign pledge.

Again, Democrats, being Democrats, produced no spending cuts, and within two years the increased federal spending had led to a doubling of the deficit.

The Democrats didn't care: All that mattered was that they had tricked Bush into breaking his tax pledge, which they celebrated all the way to Bush's defeat in the next election.

On CNN's "Crossfire," then-congressman Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., gloated: "All the spin control in the world can't undo the fact that the president is moving away from (no new) taxes."

An article on the front page of The New York Times proclaimed that "with his three words, ('tax revenue increases') Mr. Bush had broken the central promise of his 1988 campaign."

As the next presidential campaign got under way, CNN interviewed a "Reagan Democrat," who said: "Bush says, 'Read my lips.' Remember when he said that? We got taxes anyway. Clinton says, I will raise your taxes because we have to do something about that national debt."

Democrats had effectively taken away the Republican Party's central defining issue -- low taxes -- and the Republicans got nothing in return.

(I take that back: We got a stained blue dress for the Smithsonian. So, an OK trade.)

On the campaign trail, Bill Clinton taunted Bush for breaking his tax pledge, saying, "He promised 15 million new jobs, no new taxes, the environmental president, an education presidency. It was a wonderful speech. But now we don't have to read his lips; we can read his record."

Apparently, Republicans can read the Democrats' record, too. They know that Democrats will promise to cut spending in exchange for tax increases and then screw Republicans on the spending cuts.

It's been 20 years since they pulled that scam, so Democrats figure it's time to make Republicans break a tax pledge again. As long as no one knows the history of these "deals," the media can carry on, blithely portraying Republicans as obstructionist nuts for refusing the third kick of a mule.

they woulda hadda 'APOLOGIZE' to the country for their success.....

Super Committees and Hope n' Change


With the hours ticking down to a precious few, it's becoming increasingly likely that the Super Duper Committee to which Barack Obama passed his fiscal leadership responsibilities is about to present us all with a special Thanksgiving sentiment: "Get stuffed!"

Because almost
no one is predicting that the members of the supercommittee are about to strike a deal (and even if they did, the amount they're debating is only about 10% of what any truly serious reform would require).

Of course, this isn't exactly wildly surprising. When they had a supermajority, the Democrats didn't even bother to create or offer budgets. Obama created one which was so repugnant and unrealistic (actually raising spending in virtually every area) that it wasn't supported by even a single Democrat's vote.

In this absence of leadership, Barack Obama created a "Debt Reduction Commission" which was supposed to get everything figured out. But they didn't, and such good suggestions as they had (and there were quite a few) were quickly buried out of sight by Obama in much the same way that a cat scrapes kitty litter over anything it finds offensive.

Then (and by "then," we mean when the Tea Party came to Washington in 2010) came talk of a possible Balanced Budget Amendment - which Obama promptly shot down, saying that it was ridiculous to think that we'd need to amend the Constitution just to get legislators "to do their jobs."

Which is why it was puzzling that the president subsequently gave those very jobs to his new "Supercommittee" which would find $1.2 trillion in cuts...or else a "trigger" would go off, automatically cutting the money from budgets - with half the hit coming out of our nation's military financing. An outcome which seems almost unavoidable at this point...and one which will come as great news to those who would like to see America's military might diminished (including the commander in chief).

Meanwhile, businesses and employment are in the dumper, despairing over the fact that they'll seemingly never have a secure idea of the financial future to base their planning on - and such uncertainty is unacceptable.

But at Hope n' Change, we think they're missing the bigger picture. After all, since the day of Obama's election there hasn't been one single sincere effort to cut spending, encourage business, or balance the budget. So there's really no "uncertainty" at all; businessmen can confidently assume that everything will get worse for the foreseeable future, and make their hiring plans accordingly!

What's that? Oh yes - they already are.




One is a mythic being from another planet who has powers far greater than other men,
has a closely guarded secret identity, and fights enemies in comic book fashion.

The other one is Superman.

Somehow the irony of this White House announcement speaks volumes:


“At 1:00 PM, the Vice President will attend a meeting of the Government Accountability and Transparency Board in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. At 2:30 PM, the Vice President will meet with representatives of the National Sheriffs' Association in the Roosevelt Room. These meetings are closed press.

And you thought 'Money Laundering' was illegal!!

How naive of us all to believe that money laundering is illegal in this country. On a daily basis, politicians at all levels of government find ways to put tax payer's money in the pockets of unions and business men who will in turn, return it to the campaign war chests of those same politicians.

Latest case in point --- the illegal and defunded 'Michigan Quality Community Care Council' continues to illegally and arbitrarily decide that 45,000 private home care-givers are independent contractors and must belong to the SEIU.

The 'Council' then extracts $360 per year and directly pays it into the Union's coffers. Folks, we are talking about $6,000,000 per year! In this one state, in this one program.

Poster Child AGAINST professorial tenure......

That smug turd in the picture on the left is a 'tenured' law professor at Suffolk University Law School in Massachusetts. Now understand, Pardners, I am against 'tenure' (guarantee of employment for life) in any occupation - teaching, post office clerk, or heart-surgeon... for all the obvious reasons.

But when tax suckin', tuition soakin', academics like this pop up out of their holes...... they tend to make the rest of their group look bad as well.

What 'zactly is Michael Avery's current rant -- why it's simply: "I think it is shameful that it is perceived as legitimate to solicit in an academic institution for support for men and women who have gone overseas to kill other human beings,"

In other words, this pompous round mound of sound is against sending any 'care' packages of personal items to our warriors fighting over in the Sandpiles of the Middle East. He is unable to separate 'the warriors from the war'.

I'll give him this - he's consistent -- turns out this Ivy League Geek is also against displaying the US Flag (yep - Ole' Glory herself) because encourages 'patriotic zeal' or some such....

Congress acting on Concealed Carry law -- finally!!

With 245 sponsors, the House takes up its first pro-gun bill of the year with a measure giving people with concealed weapon permits in one state the right to carry a concealed weapon in other states.

I don't know about you, Pilgrims, but in a 'United" nation of states which recognize each others drivers licenses and marriage licenses, it make a whole passel of sense for the several states to automatically recognize each others 'Concealed Carry Weapon permits.

Naturally the Socialist Distrikt of Kolumbia and the one state in the Union that does not allow CCW, Illinois - of course, would be excluded.

It will be interesting to see how the Senate reacts to this, and even more interesting to see how the Community Organizer in Chief, who has that watery Illinois blood flowing through his veins acts when it hits his desk....

No surprise, that one trick pony, Carolyn McCarthy from Long Island is 'up in arms' over the Bill.

We had a new 'birthin' at our house on Veteran's Day....

Yours truly, Ole' Pecozbill, after being in labor for months and not paying enough attention to this blog, finally birthed his new book...... under the name "Will Chapman"

It is a modern Texas crime story that involves the search for a serial murderer/rapist/carjacker in Texas by the husband of one of his victims, an Air Force career military policeman.

Despite the strong plot, I've kept it to a PG-13 rating because I've got Grandkids that might read it someday.

Senate Dem seeks federal funding for diapers

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) on Tuesday introduced legislation that would allow federal block grants that states now use to subsidize child-care services to also allow for the purchase of diapers and "diapering supplies."

The bill, S. 1778, would amend the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act of 1990 to allow diapers and related supplies to be bought with grant money provided to states. Under current law, the money is meant to subsidize child-care services to parents who are entering the labor force or are in job training and education programs. It also helps subsidize child-care services for certain eligible families.

Under the law, 4 percent of all funds must be used to improve the quality of child-care. A summary of Blumenthal's bill indicates that it would allow the purchase of diapers under this provision, as it would "include the provision of diapers and diapering supplies among the activities for which funds may be employed to improve the quality of and access to child care."

The federal program, called the Child Care and Development Fund, received $5 billion in fiscal 2011, which it distributed to all 50 states, the District of Columbia and scores of tribal governments. The program now helps to provide for an estimated 1.8 million children each month.

The program also received an extra $2 billion under the 2009 stimulus bill.

Yessirree Bob!! This country of ours is in such great financial shape that we can now spend billions, BILLLION$, of your tax dollars diapering the nation's poopers. Now, if we could only find a way to diaper both ends of those spewers in the Congress -- we could all sleep better...............

The 'Ties' have it!!

One of our eagle eyed and sartorially conscious readers, just E-mailed me after reading Stossel's column 'Buy American' just below... The point the E-mailer made was that David Muir, Pretender to the ABC Anchor throne and Dianne Sawyer sidekick.... while making these reports apparently doesn't practice what he preaches.

The fact being that Euro ties run their tie stripes from the wearer's high left side to low right side, while Made in America ties are just the opposite. Stripes run from wearers high right side t lower left side...


Here is how Wikipedia puts it: Typically, American striped ties have the stripes running downward from the wearer's right (the opposite of the European style).[10]

Now yours truly, Ole' Pecoz doesn't often wear a tie - so I'll let you be the judge.... but as you read Stossel's very well written column immediately below this item. think about Mr Muir's ties and stripes...

The Stupidity of "Buy American"

One sign of economic ignorance is the faith that "Buy American" is the path to prosperity. My former employer, ABC News, did a week's worth of stories claiming that "buying American" would put Americans back to work.

I'm glad I don't work there anymore.

"Buy American" is a dumb idea. It would not only not create prosperity, it would cost jobs and make us all poorer. David R. Henderson, an economist at the Hoover Institution, explained why.

"Almost all economists say it's nonsense," he said. "And the reason is: We should buy things where they're cheapest. That frees up more of our resources to buy other things, and other Americans get jobs producing those things."

This is what people always forget. Anytime we can use fewer resources and less labor to produce one thing, that leaves more for other things we can't afford. If we save money buying abroad, we can make and buy other products.

The nonsense of "Buy American" can be seen if you trace out the logic.

"If it's good to Buy American," Henderson said, "why isn't it good to have Buy Alabaman? And if it's good to have Buy Alabaman, why isn't it good to have Buy Montgomery, Ala.? And if it's good to have Buy Montgomery, Ala. ..."

You get the idea. You wouldn't get very good stuff if everything you bought came Montgomery, Ala.

"A huge part of the history of mankind is an increase in the division of labor. And that division of labor goes across national boundaries."

Which creates wealth -- and jobs. In a similar vein, consider "fair trade" coffee. It costs much more money, but we're told that if we buy it, we should have a warm feeling inside because somebody in a poor country will supposedly get paid more.

"But a huge part of that premium is taken by the bureaucracy that organizes this. Most of it doesn't go to the farmer. And a better way to help those farmers is just buy what you would have bought anyway, take the premium you would have spent and give it to those people."

And here's something else: If you pay more for coffee, you'll have to buy less, or less of something else. That hurts other workers. We all should heed Henry Hazlitt's famous economics lesson: Look beyond the immediate effects and beneficiaries. You may be accomplishing the opposite of what you intend.

The same applies to so-called sweatshop-free products. I'm for free trade, but trade means you get the lowest price, and that might mean you buy something from what some people call a sweatshop. The name itself conveys abuse.

Henderson says that's wrong. The workers aren't abused.

"In fact, they're better off taking those jobs. ... The mistake Americans make is they think they would never work in a sweatshop and therefore they say these people shouldn't. Well, no one's offering those people green cards. Those people are stuck in those countries. They're choosing their best of a bunch of bad options. And when you take away someone's best of a bad option, they're worse off."

That happened after Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa complained about sweatshops in Bangladesh. Some shops closed. Then Oxfam discovered that kids who were laid off often turned to prostitution to support themselves.

"The person who tries to get you fired is not your friend," Henderson said.

The conglomerates that hire people in poor countries usually pay more than local employers do. In Honduras, many sweatshops pay $3.10 per hour. That's low to us, but most Hondurans earn less than two dollars an hour.

Since Third World countries do not pursue free-market policies, worker opportunities are often foreclosed by self-serving politicians. So multinational sweatshops are usually people's best alternative. Humanitarians should target the politicians, not the factories that provide some hope.

Interfering with peaceful exchange is never a good idea. The great 19th-century liberal Richard Cobden was right when he praised free trade for "drawing men together, thrusting aside the antagonism of race, and creed, and language, and uniting us in the bonds of eternal peace."

South Carolina Sheriff tells it like it is.....

In a TV interview after the arrest of a career criminal and rapist, a South Carolina Sheriff shared the following comments>

Wright said, "It's too bad someone with a concealed weapons permit didn't walk by. That would fix it." He said people are tired of doing the right thing and criminals getting away with their actions.

He said several times, "I want you to get a concealed weapons permit.

"Wright said, "I'm tired of looking at victims saying, 'There's life after this' … I'm tired of saying, 'We're sorry, we can't keep them in jail.'

"Wright said in his view, gun control is, "How fast can you can get the barrel of your gun back on the target?"

Wright said the attack is not the fault of Millken Park. He said, "It's a nice place for families."He said officers patrol the area all the time and respond to various calls there. He said, "Don't blame anyone for having an animal on their property … We can't get it all."

He encouraged women to walk in groups, and he ended by saying again, "I want you to get a concealed weapons permit. Don't get Mace. Get a firearm."And then he said, "I think I better stop before I get sanctioned."
